Book Overview
A 272 page Nonfiction, Culinary History book

In 97 Orchard, Jane Ziegelman explores the culinary life of New York’s Lower East Side at the turn of the twentieth century through the stories of five immigrant families living in the same tenement. She brings to life the crowded apartments, bustling streets, and resourceful cooks who preserved culinary traditions while adapting to their new home. The book reveals how immigrant foodways helped shape America’s shared culinary heritage.
