Wednesday 12th April -Some contemporary topics in economics

On the 12th of April, Vice-President John August will take a look at several
contemporary issues, including the nature of currency. For some, the Reserve Bank of Australia's decisions are controversial. Others take a
look at the global financial system, with some seeing a decline in
status of the US dollar. Others focus on problems with the currency
system, with gold and crypto currency providing important alternatives.

Then we have the mainstream view, of Friedman Monetarism, and alternatives
like Modern Monetary Theory. Going still further, others see our
currency and debt system as fundamentally unsustainable.

John will take a look at all this, with his own view, which is partly
mainstream, but also critical of approaches like the "Non Accelerating
Inflation Rate of Unemployment". Into the mix, he'll also take a look
current concerns about productivity, and how we understand the quality
of life and how it relates to Gross Domestic Product, or GDP.

All our events are now held at Humanist House in Chippendale.

NSW Humanist Meetup is sponsored by the Humanist Society of NSW.

The views of invited speakers are not necessarily held by the HSNSW.
The HSNSW encourages honest, open conversations held in a respectful manner.

ABOUT HUMANISM
Humanism is a flexible, open-minded life philosophy where we explore our common humanity in an awesome world without theism (religion) and other supernatural beliefs. There is no dogma but a shared reality and an appreciation of basic human values like compassion, reason, and fairness. Humanism can be seen in the best aspects of the modern Enlightenment - secularism, science, social democracy, human rights, and human flourishing. We have a concern for the biosphere, and a delight in the world as it is - and as it could be. Our discussions respect reason, respect one another, and reject all dogmatic thinking.
