AFTERNOON TALK - JOHN AUGUST ON GLOBAL FINANCE - MONEY, CRYPTO, GOLD
Details
NSW HUMANISTS MEETUP's speaker event for Sunday 12 April 2026 3-5pm at Humanist House, Chippendale will be JOHN AUGUST ON GLOBAL FINANCE - MONEY, CRYPTO, GOLD, WEALTH.
John is a VP of the NSW Humanist Society, a broadcaster and an amateur polymath of many years experience. John's talk will look at contemporary views on issues like the nature of currency, controversial Reserve Bank decisions, the global financial system, the declining status of the US dollar, and alternatives like gold and crypto currency.
He'll also raise issues like Friedman's monetarism, modern monetary theory, global currencies, concerns about productivity, unsustainable global debts, and how 'the quality of life' relates to things like GDP.
John has his own views - partly mainstream, partly critical of some approaches. Do come and enjoy an entertaining presentation followed by a lively Q&A.
NSW Humanist Meetup is sponsored by the Humanist Society of NSW. The views of invited speakers are not necessarily held by the HSNSW. The HSNSW encourages honest, open conversations held in a respectful manner.
ABOUT HUMANISM
Humanism is a flexible, open-minded life philosophy where we explore our common humanity in an awesome world without theism (religion) and other supernatural beliefs. There is no dogma but a shared reality and an appreciation of basic human values like compassion, reason, and fairness. Humanism can be seen in the best aspects of the modern Enlightenment - secularism, science, social democracy, human rights, and human flourishing. We have a concern for the biosphere, and a delight in the world as it is - and as it could be. Our discussions respect reason, respect one another, and reject all dogmatic thinking.
