What we're about

NWA TechFest is a volunteer group that puts on in-person events to facilitate STEM education and community in Northwest Arkansas. We primarily hold a yearly convention in Springdale, but are dipping our toes into pop-up events to promote community interaction post-pandemic.

Our meetups will have various focuses including:

technical knowledge transfer
business and education opportunities in NWA

Who should join this group?

Anyone who is interested in STEM education and careers in Northwest Arkansas should join our group. We can always use more volunteers to help us organize or promote the events that we put on, but even hanging around to show interest would be great. Members of this group do not need to have a technical background and there is no ongoing cost to be a part of this community.

Who supports this group?

NWA TechFest is a volunteer-run group that accepts donations from local companies and organizations in pursuit of throwing community-oriented events (mostly our yearly conference). These groups have no control over what NWA TechFest promotes and NWA TechFest does not represent these groups in any matter. NWA TechFest's list of sponsors can be found at: https://nwatechfest.org/sponsors/

NWA TechFest - Social Meetup

Needs a location

Join us outdoors at Bentonville Brewing Company in Bentonville, AR on June 29, 2022 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm for snacks, drinks, and the chance to chat with other STEM professionals in Northwest Arkansas. Feel free to come if you're a designer or other developer-adjacent role as well, but do prepared for nerd talk.

If you want to recruit for some job you can feel free to elevator pitch it if the audience is receptive, but don't be surprised if someone asks about salary ranges and benefits.

The main purpose of this event is for attendees to meet one another, socialize, and learn more about the STEM community in NWA. Partway through the event (around 7:00pm), event organizers will be focusing attendees on a group Q&A session. Organizers will be asking about attendee preferences for future events, other social/STEM groups in the area, and anything else that seems interesting. Attendees can also ask questions of the group if they're curious about anything.

NWA TechFest will be providing a limited drink tab for attendees which will operate under a TBD tab name. If you stop by the meetup first, you'll be quickly notified about it. Organizers are happy to procure some foods for the table, but individual meals should be ordered by attendees.

Organizers will try to make themselves known via updates through the messaging feature of the event, but you should at least be able to look for Jonathan Ulrich (who should be listed as attending).

This event is taking place in the outdoor section at Bentonville Brewing so check the weather and be ready for a little heat in case you need to wear thinner clothing or sunscreen. There are some umbrellas and limited indoor space, but I may also look into a tent to supplement the venue's table umbrellas.

Because this event will be in a public establishment, we have no active COVID policies besides encouraging attendees not to show up if they are sick and to wear a mask at all times if they have active health concerns in regards to the virus.

Due to limits on the space, this event signup will be capped at 40 people, but feel free to bring guests and even if the event is technically full, you can always try to show up and find room if you'd like.
