Harry Potter Lip Sync Battle

Details

A Harry Potter-themed lip sync battle? Yes indeed!

The prompt is: take a muggle song, and deliver a lip sync performance to that song to make it all about Harry Potter!

Past examples included...

  • Viktor Krum (in the second task) lip syncing to "Baby Shark"
  • Tom Riddle lip syncing to "Stayin' Alive"
  • The warlock's hairy heart (personified) lip syncing to "Tearing Up My Heart"
  • The Tale of Three Brothers staged to "I Will Survive"

Please note that this is going to be part of the wizard rock concert, Wrock the Peacock, but we wanted to bring it to your attention so are posting it as a separate event!

If you want to sign up to participate, please do so at this link. We highly encourage everyone to participate, it'll be a silly good time for all!

Note that since this is part of our weekend-long MalfoyCon celebration of all things Malfoy, you are highly encouraged to make your lip sync performance about the Malfoys!

FAQ
Q: Does the song have to be about Harry Potter?
A: No! The fun is picking a song that's not about HP and making it about HP in unexpected ways!

Q: Do I have to sing? Do I have to dance?
A: Neither! You'll be lip-syncing as the music plays, and it's more about vamping than dancing.

Q: Can we perform in pairs or groups?
A: Absolutely! Group numbers are encouraged, since they tend to be even more entertaining. Though solo numbers are also totally okay. It's up to you!

Q: Is it an actual competition?
A: Not really. We'll declare a winner based on crowd reaction and offer a prize, but it's more about having a good time.

Q: Does the performance have to be about the Malfoys?
A: It does not! Though it might help to be on topic for competitive purposes.

Q: Are costumes required?
A: You should have something indicating who you are in the performance, but it doesn't need to be anything elaborate - a blond wig and Slytherin tie would get the point across!

Q: How long does the performance need to be?
A: Aim for under 4 minutes. It can be much shorter if you want, even two minutes or less, but we don't have time for a lip sync of the ten-minute-long "All Too Well."

Q: Will there be space to change?
A: Yes. There's a bathroom down the hall.

Q: Can I write an original song, pay a professional to record it, choreograph a twelve-person dance medley, sew elaborate costumes for everyone, bring a fog machine, and finish with a Flashdance-style bucket of water?
A: This performance is a blank canvas for you - go nuts!

Q: Can I only come to this, and not the rest of the concert?
A: It's still $20 admission to come to the event, but you can arrive or leave whenever.

If you need help with anything - a costume piece, or narration, or whatever else you've thought up - let us know and we'll help as best we can!
