Re: [newtech-1] Lousy sounding music while on hold. Why?

well lets say that people have poor taste to begin with. If you get to hear the radio again it is one of the lousy stations never the cool Public Radio stations. So you have to wonder. It is possibly because the people who decide that listen to crap themselves and so they just associate that as being quality. If not then they play the same old crappy classical music when there are tons of great pieces of music. It all has to do with People and their listening choices that makes the decision.

Ok - I am just very curious. Why is it when you make a call to some
business establishment and are on hold, so often you get the most lousy
sounding music? Seems to cut in and out all the time. Very garbled. Even
my singing voice would sound better - I hope anyway. I can't even think
of a time the music even sounded as good as the voice recordings that
come up and say please hold on, someone will be with you shortly. I am a
bit familiar with codec's but this seems very strange to me. If it's
some type of capacity problem over the air/wire, why don't they use
specially modified music to address it. Any insights? Thanks!
