The Dance Parade 2025

“Dance Parade returns to the streets Saturday May 17, 2025 and will celebrate the 19th Annual Parade and Festival with 10,000 dancers featuring over 100 unique styles of dance. A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony kicks off the event at Noon at 17th Street and Sixth Avenue (Avenue of the Americas)”

Meet at 11:45 am at 13th Street and 6th Avenue in front of the Chipotle storefront.

We photographed this parade as a Meetup for the first time last year and had a fun afternoon. I invite you to join me once again in enjoying this popular NYC parade. Once we are assembled we’ll take up spots where we get a good view of the parade as it begins to pass by. Then we can walk the sidewalks following the parade as it makes it’s way down 6th Avenue and across West 8th Street to Tomkins Square Park in the East Village, continuing to make fun captures of the participants as we go.

We will try to stay together as a group as much as possible but the streets will be crowded and if any folks do lose the group along the way we can regroup on the corner of Tomkins Square Park at Avenue A and East 10th Street as the parade and we arrive in that area. The participants gather in the park and many perform on stages set up for the event. This provides further photographic opportunities.

As always any camera even cell phones are welcome but I recommend telephoto lenses to get in close for portraits and a wide-angle lens for group shots. We will be moving too fast for any tripod use.
This is a very colorful and fun parade with many opportunities for great photos. Wear good comfortable walking shoes as it’s a fairly long route.
Please be on time! The NYC Subway System is a hellscape of unimaginable delays that will wreak havoc on your mind, body, schedule, and soul. Plan your trip with some extra time! The “MyMTA” app is highly recommended on weekends.

• Charge your batteries and format your memory cards. Check that both are in your cameras.
• Get your gear ready. Make sure your lenses are clean. Pack your batteries, memory cards, camera, and whatever else you need. (Water is always a good idea!)
