This group is for those car-less New Yorkers to meet up for a day of fun and adventures in Hudson Valley, Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, Philadelphia, by taking Metro-North, Amtrak, LIRR, NJ Transit and MTA Subway to get where we need to get to.
The dark days of 2020 are long gone. It’s high time to get off the couch, get outside for IRL meets and actually DO something! Life is too short to not pursue what sets your soul on fire. Live that glow up life with sass, spice and flair! Meet new friends who share your vibrational frequency. Believe that you can fly and you will 😎

the day will be all about food and fun. We'll try an Amish breakfast. We'll go in search of the best cheesesteaks in town!!!! Philly has many world class museums… We'll visit some of them ...

AGENDA: Once we get to Philly, we'll start the day at the Reading Terminal Market - Amish breakfast anyone?
After breakfast we'll proceed to explore Philly on foot.
Lots of things to see and do! We’ll figure it all out closer to the date! Right now just buy your train ticket early!!!
Getting around town: We will get around on foot so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. Depending on where we need to go, we may share an Uber to get there.
PLEASE NOTE day’s agenda is not written in stones and remains subject to changes. Come with an open mind for ADVENTURES and FLEXIBILITY for whatever the day might bring.
DURATION: This is an all day event. But you can leave on your own at any time.
At the end of the day, you can take any return train if your choice. the 7:10pm Amtrak train is also $10 ticket back to NYC

Our First Meetup: Hempstead Lake Hike
Location not specified yetwelcome to our new group! For our very first Meetup we'll take an easy breezy hike at Hempstead Lake State Park on Long Island for fresh air, fitness and camaraderie with new friends. Park is reachable on LIRR to Lakeview Station then 20-min walk over to the park.

GETTING THERE: check LIRR train schedule --------->HERE for LIRR that will get you to Lakeview Station by 9:39AM.
AGENDA: Once we arrive at Lakeview station by 9:39am it's a 20-min walk to the Environmental Education and Resiliency Center located at 880 Lake Drive, West Hempstead, NY 11552. There are parking and bathroom facilities here.
PACE: LEISURELY and no one will be left behind. NO SPEED DEMONS!

Discover Long Island: Hike Avalon Nature Preserve
Stony Brook LIRR Station, 67 Maple Lane, Stony Brook, NY, USLong Island has many scenic trails that are relatively easy. Let's discover some of them. Let's head outside for a leisurely exploratory hike at Avalon Nature Preserve for fitness, fresh air and camaraderie with new friends. Hike is reachable on Long Island Railroad to Stony Brook.
NOTE: This is my first time doing this hike hence exploratory. Come with an open mind for adventure and flexibility for whatever the day might bring.
About Avalon Nature Preserve: This arboretum/preserve was created by its founder in memory of his son. It is a nature lover’s paradise with more than 80 acres of trails, a wildflower meadow, habitat for numerous woodland animals, many species of ferns and massive oak trees. It is located on Harbor Road, off Main Street, across from Stony Brook Grist Mill. Read more about the Preserve =======> HERE
GETTING THERE: LIRR to Stony Brook with transfer at Huntington Station
- Check MTA Schedule for train from your boarding station that will get you to Stony Brook by 10:30AM.
- From Stony Brook station, we'll share a 10-min Uber to the trailhead. Or we can walk 50-min (according to Google map).
NOTE: The preserve can be accessed via Shep Jones Lane off of North Country Road (25a), Tuesday through Sunday.

Forest Bathing at Cranberry Lake Preserve

NO! We are not taking a bath in the forest
WHAT IS FOREST BATHING? Simply, forest bathing is the Japanese practice of spending time and walking in a relaxed way in a living forest — to "bathe" in its peace and beauty -- and research has found the practice of forest bathing to reduce blood pressure, ease stress, improve mood and sleep, and increase focus and simply recharge the body's batteries.

HIKE HIGHLIGHTS: Remnants of quarry operations, old stone walls, a small cascade, and scenic 20,000 year old glacial lake, Cranberry Lake, are features on this hike at Cranberry Lake Preserve.
GETTING THERE: We'll meet at Grand Central to take the 9:14AM Metro-North to VALHALLA station.
AGENDA: Once we get to Valhalla, we'll pick up Uber for a 6-min ride (2 miles) to Cranberry Lake Preserve. It's also possible to walk from Kensico Dam Plaza to Cranberry Lake Preserve (about 20-30 min walk over a busy Mt. Kisco Road).

After hike we'll make our way back to Valhalla. We'll then explore Kensico Dam Plaza and "The Rising" sculpture, a memorial to those Westchester residents who perished on September 11.
HIKE INTENSITY: Easy breezy to moderate. There are some minor uphill and downhill but nothing strenuous
TOTAL MILEAGE: up to about 6-7 MILES, maybe more...who the heck can tell?
PACE: Hiking pace will be LEISURELY AND NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND. Throughout day, we'll have lunch, water and snack breaks as needed; as well as taking time to savor the sights and sounds of nature, take photos, hug some trees, and most importantly, socialize with your fellow hikers. NO SPEED DEMONS!!!!
