About us
Welcome, fans of Harry Potter!
We are New York City's Harry Potter Meetup group, known as the New York Order of the Phoenix.
If there are Potter-related things happening in NYC, we will be there! This goes for both the official franchise and fan-created works:
- New HP or Fantastic Beasts movies
- Harry Potter Exhibitions
- Harry Potter trivia
- Wizard rock concerts
- Performances from the Puffs team or Team StarKid
- Book releases and signings for books about HP
Aside from those events, we will meet monthly on the third Tuesday of each month: for HP book discussions, Potter-themed games, Potter-themed crafts, and more. We will be your geeky friends, who will get your references and eagerly debate the minutiae of the wizarding world!
And if you catch wind of something Pottery happening in the city, post about it here and there’s every chance it will become A Thing.

Harry Potter Cosplay Day 2026
Governors Island, New York, NY, USJoin us for NYOP's 2026 Spring Cosplay Day!
We all dress up in various Harry Potter costumes, and meet up in the park to take photos (and hopefully catch the attention of some muggles).
It's TBD whether we'll have a professional photographer this year, but since we all have cameras on our phones, you're only going to be limited by your imagination.
The event will take place at Governor's Island. We will aim to all be on the 1pm ferry from the Battery Maritime Building, since that'll be easier than finding each other on the island... but if you can't make that ferry for whatever reason, we'll post updates to our location in the Meetup comments.
The more of us there are, the better all the photos will be, and the more scenes and character combos we can stage. So we hope you'll come, and bring friends.
Note that this event is weather-permitting; we have a rain date for the following month that you can RSVP to separately.

Q: Do I need to dress up?
A: Nope! It is the reason for the season, but if you want to just join us for a day at the park, or as a photographer, no one's stopping you!Q: Do I need Hogwarts House robes?
A: Nope! Dress up as any character from the wizarding world! If you want to come as Dr. Granger the Muggle Dentist, no one will mind.Q: What if I don't know how to cosplay?
A: We all start somewhere! Grab a Hogwarts House tie over a white shirt, it works wonders.Q: Can we coordinate costumes and characters?
A: We can try! Post who you're going as in the comments and if you want a specific character or costume.Q: Is it okay if I come late/leave early/etc?
A: Sure. We'll do our best to find any stragglers using the Meetup comments.Q: Will there be breaks? Will there be food?
A: Yes and yes. We suggest bringing snacks to eat when we break for lunch, since Governor's Island isn't renowned for food options.Q: What if the weather is bad?

HP Board Games in the Park (Rain Day for Cosplay Day)
Astoria Park, 21st & Astoria Blvd, Entrance Of Park, Astoria, NY, USCome join for a picnic in Astoria Park! You bring the snacks and picnic blankets, we'll bring the HP-themed games (HP Clue! HP Scrabble!), and we can have a nice day hanging out in the park.
We'll probably end up at the South Hill, around 23rd Ave, but you can use the comments here to find us or just message the organizer on Meetup.
Please note: the plan is board games on this day, but if our Cosplay Day on Governor's Island doesn't work out because of weather, we'll do that on this day instead. Either way, we'll be doing HP activities somewhere nice and outdoorsy on this day!
