Like its elegant neighbors in Queens, Kew Gardens and Forest Hills Gardens, Jamaica Estates is an exclusive residential community designed in the early 1900s based on the aristocratic English model for parklike landscaping and Tudor architecture. We'll tour the winding roads and view the lovely mansions in this leafy enclave. As a bonus, we'll visit the expansive campus of St. John's University, featuringa few beautiful stained-glass chapel and an authentic Chinese Pagoda.

DISTANCE: About 2 to 3 miles.

COST: $1, to help cover the annual $390 fee that Meetup charges organizers.

SNACK: Bring your own to eat during a long rest stop

TRANSPORTATION: F train to 179th St. in Queens. Look for the Midland Parkway exit near the front of the train. Or take any exit and walk on Hillside Avenue towards the higher numbers until you reach Midland in a blocks.
