NYC Equitable Toastmasters Club is a vibrant group in New York City that has been going strong since its founding in 1962.
Our club is dedicated to developing its members’ public speaking and leadership abilities in a supportive and respectful environment. Each meeting features three to four speeches, evaluations of the speeches, short impromptu speeches called table topics, and more. We listen and learn, laugh and tear up, and reflect. We get to know each other and have fun as we share our journey of personal growth.
Members get the chance to enhance their leadership skills by taking on different meeting roles such as toastmaster of the day, table topics master, evaluator, grammarian, um counter, and mentor. Our club has an elected executive committee and the officers handle such duties as scheduling speeches and roles, developing and maintaining membership, overseeing dues and finances, and coordinating public relations – including interfacing with the organization that provides our space. This is another way for members to gain leadership experience and confidence. Over the course of a year, our president opens and closes the meetings and puts his or her personal stamp on the club.
We expect NYC Equitable Toastmasters Club to continue to thrive. There is always some turnover due to changes in people’s work, location and lives, but our club has a loyal, committed membership. We’re proud to offer our members the ongoing opportunity for challenge and camaraderie as all of us strive to become stronger public speakers and more effective leaders.
