Summer Solstice 20 Miles or Bust
Location not specified yetSummer officially starts at 4:24AM today! CHOOSE TO BE EPIC on the longest day of the year! Let's take a hike on the Nassau-Suffolk Greenbelt trail starting in COLD SPRING HARBOR on Long Island (NOT COLD SPRING in Hudson Valley!) making our way south through Trail View State Park, through Bethpage State Park all the way to Massapequa State Park. Total Mileage is about 20 MILES.
Disclaimer: Now I don't know even if I can do the whole 20 miles in one day. But I'm going to give it the ole college try!!

GETTING THERE: Long Island Railroad (LIRR) to Cold Spring Harbor in the morning; if you stay with us til the end, at the end of the day we'll leave from Massapequa Station.
TRAIN SCHEDULE: check MTA train schedule -----> HERE for the train that will get you to Cold Spring Harbor by 8:38AM
OUR AGENDA: We will all arrive at COLD SPRING HARBOR at 8:38AM. From here, we'll share a short Uber ride to the Cold Spring Harbor Library where the trailhead starts.
MILEAGE: Approximately 20 MILES in total. But we'll aim to do at least 10 Miles, and however many remaining miles to finish we will do the following weekend.
INTENSITY: Moderate to Easy. The trails at Cold Spring Harbor are HILLY terrains but nothing that experienced hikers can't manage.
PACE: LEISURELY AND NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND. We'll go at a moderately LEISURELY pace with stops as needed for refreshments and photo-ops as well as taking the time to soak in the surrounding views, savor the sights and sounds of nature. NO FAST HIKERS!!!
THE IMPORTANT STUFF:
- Dress in non-cotton layers.
- Wear appropriate shoes suitable for hiking.
- Bring plenty of liquid to stay hydrated
- Bring lunch and snacks for yourself.
- Bring sunscreen, bug repellent, head cover
- Bring a sense of adventure and a positive attitude. A smile also goes a long way. Please leave the drama and crankiness at home. Whiners and complainers please stay home!
DURATION; This is an ALL DAY HIKE.
Post-hike, for those interested, we can grab celebratory eats and drinks in Massapequa right by the train station.

It is a shorter, two-hour tour that is family-friendly and suitable for kids, parents, and grandparents of all skill and patience levels. The focus will be kept on experiencing the natural beauty. Begin this tour paddling 1.2 miles north along the shore of the beautiful Hudson River before arriving at a railroad trestle that marks the confluence of the Moodna Creek and the Hudson. Your guides will lead you through this freshwater tidal wetland as we keep our eyes and ears open for its inhabitants.What's included:
