Join me at Martha's Vineyard Bicycling! https://meetu.ps/e/Pdjf4/1QWyZ/i
Extend your weekend with us to enjoy all that this beautiful New England island has to offer, by bicycle! Located near the center of the island, we will stay at the comfortable, large and efficiently run Martha's Vineyard Hostel. It has a large kitchen/dining room, den, and men's and women's dorms, however, please understand when RSVPing for this trip, you will either be sleeping in our exclusive 10-bed room or 4-bed room dorm. The payment is for your bed, for 4 nights in the hostel.
Park your car in one of the ferry lots on the mainland, and bring or rent a bike, e-bike or moped on the island. Pleasant roads and a bike path can show you the way to the hostel, right from the ferry warf... Remember to pack light, bring or rent a bicycle, e-bike (http://www.marthasvineyardbike.com/) (or even rent a moped (http://kingsrentalsmv.com)), and tour the quaint towns, rolling hills and beautiful shoreline on the many miles of quiet roads and smooth bike paths. It is a 9-1/2 mile ride from the Oak Bluffs ferry warf, or 7+ miles from Vineyard Haven, to the hostel. Take a day pack and/or pack panniers (bicycle bags); you only need to carry clothing and other personal items to the hostel. Linens, pillows, blankets, and towels are provided; sleeping bags are not allowed on the property. You can buy food and bring it back to the hostel to cook in their large kitchen if you so choose. Alcohol or controlled substances are not permitted on the premises. We will plan to go out for at least one group dinner.
The hostel is staffed and accessible 24 hours; there is no curfew. Quiet hours are between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Group participants should be respectful of other guests at all hours.
If you are arriving on Saturday and want to return Wednesday, take either the Fast Ferry from New Bedford, MA (https://seastreak.com/ferry-routes-and-schedules/between-new-bedford-marthas-vineyard-ma/), or the Ferry from Woods Hole, MA (https://www.vineyardferries.com/). The Woods Hole ferry requires the longest drive but has the most ferries running throughout the day. If you want a shorter drive, you can park your car in the lot by the Vineyard Fast Ferry departing from Quonset Point, RI (https://www.vineyardfastferry.com/), but dates/times need to be confirmed.
Menemsha Fishing Village (http://mvmagazine.com/news/2012/06/15/why-we-love-menemsha) and Oak Bluffs' 'Ginger Bread' Cottages (http://www.countryliving.com/real-estate/news/g3613/marthas-vineyard-gingerbread-houses/) are planned destinations, and the Aquinnah Beaches & The Cliffs of Gay Head (http://www.marthasvineyardtourguide.com/marthas-vineyard-beaches-aquinnah/) and Lighthouse (http://gayheadlight.org/) are a must-see! Don't forget to visit the many shops, art galleries and seafood restaurants. You can also take in the flora and fauna by hiking or kayaking. Long Point Wildlife Refuge (http://www.thetrustees.org/places-to-visit/cape-cod-islands/long-point.html) is only a few miles from the hostel. Taxis and a shuttle bus also service the hostel. Please plan now while we still have beds available. Some of us may even add a day or two to make this an even longer stay. Unless weather stops the ferries from running, this is a RAIN OR SHINE event.
Group check-in is available after 3:00 p.m. and check-out is at 11:00 a.m. If you plan to arrive early/depart late, baggage storage can be arranged with advance notice. You are welcome to arrive on the island any time on Saturday (before dark), or leave before Wednesday, if that is what your schedule allows. However, when you RSVP, you are paying for 4 nights, regardless of how long you decide to stay. The payment of $225 is for one person, which will only cover the cost to join the group at the hostel.
We can offer a refund (less Paypal fee) only if we can replace you to maintain the same attendance. Refunds are offered on a first come, first served basis, and only after the trip has ended.
When you sign up for this event you agree to provide an emergency contact, and also read, understand, and sign a waiver stating the the following:
