Delaware Water Gap: Mount Tammany & Sunfish Pond (Early Fall Hike)

Details
Join me in hiking this very scenic and popular trail up Mount Tammany to the Sunfish Pond. This is one of NJ's Top Ten hikes and starts off with a steep and hard climb up the mountain via the Red Dot trail. The Tammany Red Dot Trail gains nearly 1,200 ft. elevation in the short distance from the parking area to the summit with several worthwhile viewpoints along the way. At the top, we have incredible views of the Delaware Water Gap and Mount Minsi across the Gap.
We will descend via the Blue Trail, take the green trail alongside the Dunnfield Creek which we will cross a few times, hike through the old hardwood forest until we reach the glacial lake, Sunfish Pond (lunch spot). We will return to the small parking lot via the Appalachian trail.
Distance: approx.ly 12 mi
Elevation gain: approx.ly 2300 ft
Difficulty: Hard
Hikers need to dress appropriately as per the early fall weather conditions, carry poles, hiking boots with traction, enough snacks, lunch and hydration with electrolytes.
