Schunemunk & Megalith Hike
Details
Not 7-11 Hike but Fast pace Day Hike*
This challenging and scenic hike explores the ridges of Schunemunk Mountain, the highest peak in Orange County, New York, known for its striking conglomerate rock formations, open ridgelines, and panoramic views. The route includes a visit to the Megaliths, a dramatic cluster of massive boulders offering excellent photo opportunities and sweeping vistas of the Hudson Valley.
We will ascend via the Trestle Trail (white blaze), then follow the Western Ridge before crossing over to the Jessup Trail, forming a loop that returns via the Trestle Trail to the parking area. This route provides a full experience of Schunemunk’s rugged terrain, with a combination of steep climbs, ridge walks, and rocky descents.
Participants should be prepared for rocky, uneven terrain, and remain alert as snakes and black bears are frequently encountered in this area.
