Explore the Historic Rosendale Cement Mines & Scenic Trails
Once considered the best cement in the world, Rosendale Cement from Rosendale, NY laid the foundation for icons like the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, and Federal Hall. By the 1970s, quicker-drying cements took over, leading to the closure of the local mines and turning Rosendale into a ghost town.
Today, Rosendale is experiencing a vibrant comeback. The once-abandoned mine region is now home to beautiful hiking trails, offering views of the 1800s cement factory ruins and the dramatic cement mine openings carved into the cliffs, resembling caves (no mine shafts).
Join a group of New York Social Network members and friends for a refreshing day trip filled with nature, history, and local charm. We’ll also explore Rosendale and have a chance to walk over the historic Rosendale Trestle.
