What we're about

Meet other local Python developers, learners, employers, and enthusiasts of all kinds. All skill levels are welcome: if you are interested in Python, we are interested in you! Come along and expand your network of people, opportunities, and ideas.

We have great regular events:

Monthly presentation series: these are mid-length presentations (30 minutes to an hour) about topics of interest to the community. Sometimes we also have lightning talks (5-15 minutes). If you have something you'd like to share with everyone, drop a line to the organisers!

Monthly informal "Hands-on" evenings: these are a chance to sit down with other Python developers of all experience levels to push your project forward, get help with a particular trouble spot, share expertise, or do whatever else you like. These formally start at 6:30 (when the pizza arrives) but you can drift in from about 5:45. There will be a brief training session to kick things off each time. The training content will be aimed at the beginner level.

This meetup.com group is for the Auckland meetings.

Coding Evening - Crafting Software

Link visible for attendees

Come to our Coding Evening with your Python questions, suggestions, problems, etc; and/or bring a Lightning Talk about your current topic-of-interest - something new, a recent discovery, a contribution you have made...

We will continue the Crafting Software series. These are code-along-at-home exercises. The initial sessions are designed for Beginners, and will gradually 'grow' into areas which will challenge and benefit Journeyman Python Programmers and even Masters. The aim is to complement Olaf's Software Craftsmanship Presentation series with practical coding and observing the advantages of craftsmanship, as we/the code becomes more sophisticated.

You are welcome to bring a guest who knows (almost) nothing about Python - you will be able to explain things to them, as we go; and get them started with your favorite programming language.

If you were unable to attend last month, no problem. We will commence with a QuickStart to (re-)build the developments so-far.

Thereafter, we will continue to prototype an implementation of our 'toy' Business Rule, step-by-step learning a bit of Python and design ideas. Once we're confident, we'll transfer those into the Editor and form a working-script. If there's time, the future forays include "Get goin' with git", UX, and Looping. We'll forge-ahead and carry-over the rest into next month...

Please come, and come with a collegial frame-of-mind. Questions and conversation will be the order of the day. If you are more confident in Python, your constructive advice, suggestions, and alternate approaches will be valued ...

Please RSVP to be advised of the BBB URL, and to receive a copy of the QuickStart Guide.

Auckland Python Presentation

Link visible for attendees

The Auckland members of the New Zealand Python Users Group meet every month. You're very welcome to attend online. For the time-being, please do not travel to our usual meeting place at AUT, we will be online-only for this event, and the URL will be sent to those who RSVP.

We have a healthy mix of Python users. Students, academics, hobbyists, industry professionals, and many completely new to Python.

During these meetups, we have two presentations by members of the group about their Python endeavours. At least one of the presentations should be aimed at a beginner level, so don't worry if you are not too familiar with Python.

The "room" opens at 6:30pm, and the first presentation starts at 6:45pm. Everything should be wrapped up by 8:30pm. See you there!

If you would like to present at a future meetup, fill out this google form and we will schedule you in https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc9EknPmnQP4SsXE4_JkDttmnh5ZbOM-A2vrNpy_0qnqnmd4g/viewform?usp=sf_link

We follow the NZPUG code of conduct to create an inclusive friendly environment. https://python.nz/Page/42341

As the city of Auckland is likely to be in some level of Lockdown, this will be an online-only event. The URL to come to will be communicated closer to the time, and has been provided by the New Zealand Open Source Society, thanks team.
