What weโ€™re about

This is a group for anyone interested in the Python programming language. Join us to learn, share and network!

We hold regular in-person meetings in Wellington, New Zealand.

Some meetings support online participation. If you plan on attending meetings online, consider also joining our group "Python New Zealand - Online Events" for all our online events and hybrid events held in other cities.

Join our channel #meetup-wellington on the Python New Zealand Slack to stay up to date, interact with others or help with upcoming events.

If you'd like to present at one of the next meetups, please fill out this form and we will help schedule you in.

Python New Zealand's Code of Conduct applies to all Python New Zealand events and participants agree to abide by it.

Job Ads in Comments

The Python New Zealand committee generally welcomes the posting of Python-related job opportunities in the comments on meetup.com, provided they meet the following guidelines:

  • The job is Python-related.
  • The job is suitable for someone based in New Zealand, i.e., it is either located in NZ or open to remote work from NZ.
  • This must be clearly stated in the post.
  • All available job details should be included directly in the comment, rather than linking to an external site (especially not to a list of jobs).

The committee reserves the right to remove any comments โ€” and/or ban accounts โ€” that violate these guidelines, at its sole discretion.

    Simon Erkelens: A Power Grab
Powershop used to have an API, but doesn't anymore. Home Assistant has a neat power dashboard, so to get the information in there, we need to jump through some hoops. One is to use th escraper add-on for Home Assistant, but it can be done much cleaner through CSV parsing!

Michael Howard: Get Rich or Die TTYing
Rich is a Python library for styling terminal output. 50 Cent is a stylish rapper. In this talk, I explore 21 Questions on how you can P.I.M.P your next Python CLI application. Be prepared for unnecessary terminal bling and 2000s gangsta rap references.
