What we’re about

Welcome to East Bay Go Players, we have two regular meetups in Oakland & Berkeley where we play go, also known as weiqi or baduk. Our atmosphere is casual, with plenty of socializing along with playing.

Our Locations:

Sundays in North Oakland (10am~2pm) @ Starbucks, 3013 Broadway, Oakland
Mondays in Berkeley (6pm~10pm) @ Mezzo, 2442 Telegraph, Berkeley

Beginner? Please have a look at learn-go.net before coming for the first time. This way you can learn the basics at your own pace.

Join us to play in our 3rd ever tournament hosted by East Bay Go. It'll be 3-rounds, 3 divisions (all handicap), Fischer time (20m + 15s inc). Event is held partly outdoors, so please dress in layers.

Date: Sunday September 21st from 9:00am ~ 5:00pm
Location: Studio KDA in West Berkeley at 1810 Sixth St #2003, Berkeley, CA 94710 (map).

Registration Fee:

$25 General

$15 Under 23

It is free for spectators

Time settings: Fischer 20min + 15s/move
Prizes:

$50 for 1st place in all divisions

T-shirts for 1st, 2nd, 3rd in all divisions

FAQ

Q. Are we going to be outside?
A. Maybe? Last tournament we were able to fit everyone inside of the building, but it doesn’t hurt to dress in layers, put on sunscreen, and bring a hat!

Q. Will there be food?
A. We’re going to provide breakfast & lunch.

Q. Do I need to be an AGA member to play
A. No, this tournament will not be AGA rated

Check-in: 9:00

Please show up on time for check-in so we can start games at 9:30 am

Enjoy some breakfast for showing up early

If you are not checked in by 9:20 we are going to have to remove you from the tournament.

First game: 9:30 am

Second game: 11:30 am

Lunch: 1:30

Third game: 2:30 pm

Awards: 4:30 pm

We meet at Cafe Mezzo at 2442 Telegraph Ave, Berkeley, CA 94704, from 6pm until closing, around 9 or 10 PM.
Most of our players are around 3-8 kyu, but there are usually new players and more experienced players who come as well. If you're curious about the game of Go and want to learn before you come, here is a good tutorial: https://online-go.com/learn-to-play-go

Welcome to the East Bay Go Club! We meet on Sundays from 10:00 AM to at least 2:00 PM at the 3013 Broadway Starbucks.

This is a great venue for us, with plenty of seating in and out as well as lots of parking in the upstairs lot (entryway on 30th St). Starbucks serves some food, and there's a Chipotle right next door and Sprouts supermarket just a few steps past that. Please buy at least a small drink from Starbucks to help show our appreciation for use of the venue.

If you can bring a set, please do! But don't worry if you don't have one, we have plenty of others members who regularly bring theirs. Also we appreciate it if you can RSVP to all the events you attend (even if you happen to be a regular). This helps helps us figure out who is coming, and which players to pair.

If this is your first time playing and you need to learn the basics, there's a good tutorial at learn-go.net. It's generally most efficient to go over it before your first time playing in person.

Also, our members are happy to teach beginners, give game reviews, etc.
