The Believer

Details

Please join our zoom only event as we partner with Americans United for Separation of Church and State Orange County, when we present THE BELIEVER, a 2001 film based on a factual story about a young Jewish man who develops a fiercely anti-Semitic philosophy. He becomes a K.K.K. member in the 1960’s, and was revealed to be Jewish by a New York Times reporter.

A profoundly disturbing film, written and directed by Henry Bean, an observant Jew, explores the emotional damage Anti-Semitism has done to one brilliant, independent-minded Jew. Obviously obsessed with the issue of power, and repulsed by those who are powerless, the protagonist chooses to identify with Nazis as opposed to Jews.

As the film progresses, he reconnects with Judaism and with former classmates but is unable to relinquish his Neo-Nazism. He now identifies as both a Nazi and a Jew, as seen by his images of a horrifying story told to him by a survivor.

Current church/state issues include, Neo-Nazism, White Supremacy, Racism, Anti-Semitism, and White Christian Nationalism.

We hope you will join us for this important and interesting film, and participate in our follow up discussion.

You will need to register at the link provided prior to the event to receive the confirmation email with information about joining the meeting.
