Humanists and Politics
Details
An informal lunch meeting to continue our discussion of the philosophy and values of humanism.
We shall consider the relationships between a humanism and politics. On the assumption that humanism is non-partisan politically, there are some political issues that are best avoided. We cannot and do not require that humanists endorse any political party or candidate. But there are a number of social and political issues (e.g. issues of the environmental crisis) which many humanists are prepared to assert and debate. The war policy of one's nation is another political issue that often comes up for discussion.
In general, let's discuss the ways in which a person's humanistic perspective is relevant to his/her political/social ideologies. In short, what, if anything, does humanism ask of you? And what do you ask of humanism, politically speaking?
