SF Online Community MeetUp featuring Jeff Elder of Storify

  • May 23, 2012 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

SF Online Community MeetUp is the free monthly gathering of online community managers, enthusiasts, and innovators to meet and discuss tools and strategies for building and managing effective communities.

Join us this month as we welcome Jeff Elder, Marketing Director at Storify, for his talk, "What To Do When Your Community Wants To Kill You." Whether you work for a startup, a nonprofit, or a Fortune 500, social media can be a volatile place. Elder has weathered 20,000 negative comments in one day on Facebook and turned that same campaign into a huge success. Here's how to face down the angry crowd, fire a gun into the air and yell, "All right you animals, that's enough!"

Has your community ever wanted to kill you? How did you handle that? Bring your own war story to share during the Q&A!

Here are all the ways you can take part in the event! Feel free to participate in any and all of these ways:

Follow the action on Twitter: hashtag: #octribe.

Participate virtually in the Nonprofit Commons in Second Life (slurl to location in Second Life): You can see a step-by-step guide for how to participate in Second Life.

Join the San Francisco Online Community Report MeetUp group on Facebook

Thanks to our generous sponsor, the Iron Cactus, for providing refreshments.

Hope to see you there!

I usually enjoy octribe, but this turned from an industry chat to an hour-long demo of Storify. Totally off topic. It wasn't entirely Jeff's fault, but I wish someone had been there to steer us back on track.

The meeting on May 23 was the first Community Management event that I had ever attended. Jeff Elder of Storify made a presentation of Storify. He covered what the social platform stands for, what it does, and the social benefits. I have found the event extremely educational and interesting. Thanks to Susan (organizer),the co-organizer team, and Jeff Elder for the great presentation.
