SF Online Community MeetUp featuring Maria Ogneva of Yammer

SF Online Community MeetUp is the free monthly gathering of online community managers, enthusiasts, and innovators to meet and discuss tools and strategies for building and managing effective communities.

We will be joined in co-hosting June's event by the Bay Area Cause Communications Meetup. Together, we'll be welcoming Maria Ogneva, Director of Community at Yammer.

Ogneva's talk, "Stop doing social media and become a social organization," asks the question: In a race to do social media, are you creating an organization that can deal with today's reality? Social means more than than setting up a Twitter account, and community management does not mean amassing fans on Facebook. Smart organizations know that with the help of social platforms, they can become better. Becoming a better organization comes from listening and learning all around you -- across customers, employees, advocates, "badvocates," and everyone in between. Acting on these insights takes a flexible structure that empowers and enables, and leadership that inspires and listens. Hear examples of the transformation possible with social, and take away small changes you can make today!

A nonprofit case study will follow our guest's presentation, detailing the ins and outs of negotiating executive buy-in when starting a social media program.

Here are all the ways you can take part in the event! Feel free to participate in any and all of these ways:

Thanks for organizing! Great meetup. So true... social biz is more than just a media strategy.

Great presentation and hats off to Susan as usual. Yammer looks like they are keeping their feet on the ground and the channels open, though the MS deal is not technically "done". It does look like the pioneers in social will get their share as the old guard recognizes the inevitable path forward. Thanks to all that made this happen.
