Details

The Five Obstructions (2003) is a provocative documentary-style film by Lars von Trier that challenges his mentor, director Jørgen Leth, to remake Leth’s 1967 short The Perfect Human five times, each under a set of strict, often absurd constraints (or "obstructions") devised by von Trier. Through these creative limitations—ranging from forcing Leth to shoot in Cuba without showing the location, to remaking the film as a cartoon—von Trier explores themes of artistic struggle, vulnerability, and the nature of filmmaking itself.
