The Day Before 4x4 Night Drive

The WILSON TANK trail starts just outside of Las Vegas by one of the last housing communities before BLM land. At first glance, it doesn't look great, but about a mile into the trail, the populated world drops away and the scenery is gorgeous. The first few miles are a fun wash (note, this wash will flood in a flash flood), and then you will head uphill. Most hard passes have a bypass except the last hill just before Cottonwood Pass Trail; there, 4WD is required. The water tanks are a neat spot to stop and take photos, and you may come across horses or burros. This is not a terribly hard trail, but 4WD is required. Stop and enjoy the scenery.

COTTONWOOD PASS runs north and south through the Spring Mountain and Red Rock conservation areas just west of Las Vegas, NV. From Blue Diamond Road, you can take Cottonwood Pass all the way to Goodsprings, NV.
We will arrive about half way onto Cottonwood Pass Trail. The trail is mostly flat and runs through typical desert terrain but can be rough at some points due to heavy traffic or erosion from the elements. There is also a short turn-off from the main trail with a nice view of the Las Vegas Valley.
Recommended:
Your best camera: we love seeing your pictures.
Any off-road capable vehicle (jeep rating 2 with optional obstacle for the experts).
Good working full size spare tire.
Food, snacks, plenty of water.
GMRS radio is encouraged but not required.
You are welcome to have guests in your vehicle and are responsible for their behavior.
