What we’re about

An experienced skipper and crew now invite you to join us for the 2024 season. All races usually end with a hospitality event at an appealing destination.

Our philosophy is to a) sail safe, b) have fun and c) to go for it when a) and b) are satisfied!

We finished in 6th place overall in our class in the JOG offshore series in 2022, and 4th place overall in 2021. Also, we have competed in 4 x Fastnet races including the 2021 race, which finished in Cherbourg for the first time. We finished in the top 3rd of our class overall in the RORC series in 2021.

The boat is Mardy Gras, a high-specification X332, which is based at HISC and is in Haslar marina, Gosport before races. The boat has a high stability rating and has always felt safe in some pretty demanding gales and heavy seas (when we have had to!).

Previous offshore racing or cruising experience is preferred for the longer offshore races but less experienced crew are welcome on training events and on races where I have a safe balance of experience. This is a great boat to gain experience on.

Please note that event contributions cover all food and drinks whilst on board, race entry fees, marina fees, fuel, gas, maintenance of all safety equipment to Cat. 2 Offshore Regulations, plus RORC & JOG prescriptions (including keel and rudder certification, lifejackets, tethers, life raft etc.). Also, maintenance of all race-specific equipment (race sails, running rigging etc.). All non-race costs are excluded as are drinks and dinners ashore, and personal insurance.

Event finish times published on this site are a guide only. They are normally finalised with the crew participating in an event as we sometimes call in to ports on the return trip, eg. Guernsey and/or Alderney on the way back from St Malo. Also, it is recommended that you plan to have around 24 hours contingency after a race in case weather delays our ETA, either out or back or both. Crew are normally required to join the boat the day or evening before an offshore race, depending on start times.

Coastal races usually start early on a Saturday and finish on a Sunday afternoon.

Finally, the boat is MCA coded and available for skippered charter, for up to 4 people for a week or a weekend. Please contact me via this site if you might be interested.

NB: - Crew selection will be on merit, i.e. on RYA qualifications, previous experience & performance in training and not on a first come first served basis.
