About us

Oltre Confine is a Meetup community for expats, on a mission to reshape the way we make contact with the complexity of reality as a source of meaning in life.

To manage uncertainty, we live under an adaptive biological tendency to reduce everything to homogeneous categories. Technology acts in the same way, as both a mirror and a reinforcer of this same cognitive dynamic.

As adaptive as this is, when we're under pressure and uncertainty grows, we may cling to this mechanism in unhealthy ways (reinforced by an unbalanced use of media and technology) losing the trust and freedom to venture into uncharted territory, but at the same time losing the chance to find relief from our existential pain.

This is how our thoughts start spinning without hope or resolution. We may feel overwhelmed and lost.

In our Meetups, we want to open up and work toward enriching our lived experience on three levels: theory, contact with our perceived experience, and relational calibration.

We introduce existential concepts to broaden our horizon.
We build awareness to to our own self-deception mechanisms, becoming familiar with our frames instead of merely looking through them.
We reintroduce relationship with others as a way to enrich our narrative of what is real and what matters, establishing a new balance between our ego and the world.

Oltre Confine is a space for direct experience, introspection, and relationship: you go home with a few less certainties, but with a slightly firmer grip on life.
