Outdoor Enthusiasts: Capitol Forest Hike | Wedekind Trail
Falls Creek Trailhead (Capitol State Forest), Capitol State Forest, Olympia, WA, USDetails:
Wedekind Trail is a multi-directional trail accessed from the Fall Creek TH and is one of the primary gateway trails to other parts of the Forest. From Fall Creek, Wedekind works its way up onto the flanks of Capitol Peak. It's uphill, but the grade never gets unmanageable. There are several creeks and waterfalls, deep woods, some volcano views in the clear-cuts, and miles of buffed single track.Distance:
6.3 miles one way*, this is an out and back (no loop)
*Note* For our first hike on this trail, recommend we hike out 3~ miles and then turn around. If anyone would like to continue on further - please do! - but want to make this hike accessible to all fitness levels. Also, a 6-mile hike is still something to be proud of!Getting Started: We’ll meet in the Fall Creek trailhead parking lot and wait for 15-minutes. At 1:15pm, we'll head out on the trail (located to the right of restrooms), from there we simply follow the trail to a 4 way intersection and hang a left. After that, the trail is very well marked.
Directions to Fall Creek Trailhead:
From Hwy 101 in Olympia take Black Lake Blvd south, continue on Black Lake Blvd until it turn into 62nd Ave SW and arrives at a T intersection. Make a left at the T and you'll be on Delphi Rd. After a few miles you will make a right on Waddell Creek Rd. After a few more miles Waddell Creek Rd you will come to another T intersection, this time you will be the top of the T and continue straight and the Road will become the Sherman Valley Rd which is also known as the C-Line Rd. From here you will continue up the C-Line until you see the signs and turn off for Fall Creek Campground. Continue downhill and the signs will lead you to the Fall Creek Campground and trail head.Trail FAQs:
