About us
Welcome to Omaha Comedy Lovers for Shows & Classes! Whatever type of comedy you love, The Backline Comedy Theatre in downtown Omaha hosts them! Standup, improv, sketch, musicals, whatever!
The Backline is loved by performers and audience members both here in Omaha and everyone visiting. Touring comedians often say they wish they had a place like this in their city and tourists say they had no idea Omaha has such a good local comedy scene.
Our students often make lifelong friends as they take our classes, which include everyday folks just trying to have more fun in their week as well as influential Omahans like filmmakers, cartoonists, small business owners, lawyers, doctors, politicians, musicians, actors, and obviously comedians!
Events range from seeing shows and open mics to classes and workshops, as well as special events like parties and other social activities. We're very proud of our inclusive community who love to chat with people interested in getting into comedy!

HONEST CHOICES: YOUR CHARACTER'S INNER VOICE (Some Improv Experience Required)
LEXIE FOSTER
In our everyday life, each of us has an inner voice that guides the choices we make and the actions we take. On stage, your character’s inner voice is still there, and the decision is up to you to find it, listen to it, and act upon it. Following your character’s inner voice leads to more honest choices on stage, therefore building more genuine scenes for an audience. In this workshop, improvisers will practice leaning into their character’s point of view and discovering how this influences the actions their characters make, leading to a more authentic world on stage.3:15PM
SING YOUR HEART OUT: FUELING SONGS W/ EMOTIONS (Some Musical Experience Required)
LILY WANG
Musical improv often feels intimidating, as there may be pressure to juggle breathing, melody, rhythm, rhyming, and physical movement, all while moving scenes forward with your improvised songs. This workshop will focus on letting go of those concerns and just concentrating on channeling feelings and emotion in your musical scenes. We'll practice singing with a range of different emotions and then tie it together with improvised stories. Attendees will leave feeling more skilled at connecting with audiences with emotion fueling their songs.2 attendees
