What is it?: This is a casual beginner’s ballet class (Yes! Including absolute beginners). I teach classes in the classical method of a half hour long barre warm-up and stretch where you learn classical technique followed by a half hour of centre where we apply the principles we learned in progressively ‘grander’ movements.

Ballet has done a lot for me and it’s my vision to see more casual and inclusive spaces open up to people interested in Ballet; classes open to EVERYONE regardless of age, experience, body shape, gender presentation, sexual orientation, skill level, etc. People tend to think of Ballet as something you have to start at the age of 5 to be successful at, and if your dream is to dance professionally for a national dance company this may be true. But for most of us we just want to enjoy and participate in the art form! I wish to see more classes that fill a more casual, hobbyist, and lighthearted space. I firmly believe that anyone can dance Ballet. This is not to say everyone will progress at it- that takes consistent commitment and dedication- but I make room for dancers to choose the pace and level of commitment that is right and fun for them!

Is this class appropriate for me?: Anyone with an inclusive and body-positive mindset may join. That includes absolute beginners.
If you have a differing ability and are not sure if classes are right for you please feel free to contact me at the info provided above and I’d be happy to discuss possible accommodations. Generally, all movements can be modified to accommodate differing abilities and injuries. I myself have joint difficulties that I need to mind. Please note that Mind the Step sadly does not have a lift to access either dance studios, so dancers would need to be able to ascend/descend a flight of stairs without mechanical assistance.

I'm in! How do I sign up?
Book your spot at OnPointDanceFitness.as.me. Here you'll find classes, schedules, and discount bundle packages.

Do I need to bring anything?
If you don’t have ballet slippers just bring a pair of socks to dance in and any clothes you feel comfortable moving in. I often wear the traditional leotard and tights, but mostly because I like it :) It also helps me demonstrate correct posture for my students.

Great! Lets get started!
