Oak Canyon Hike (Mission Trails)
Details
We will hike the Oak Canyon to Grasslands Loop in Mission Trails Regional Park. The route begins gently, climbs uphild, then moves into more interesting canyon terrain with a stream crossing, shaded sections, and a stretch of fun, easy rock scrambling.
Trail details:
Distance: ~5 miles
Elevation gain: ~400 ft
Estimated time: 2.5 hours
Difficulty: Moderate
Expect a mix of smooth trail, rocky sections, and narrow canyon paths. The scrambling is manageable, but it does require using hands for balance in a couple spots. Sturdy shoes are recommended.
What to expect from this group:
A steady, conversational pace
We stay loosely together—no racing ahead, no one left behind.
Friendly, relaxed interaction.
This is not a speed hike, a workout competition, or a sightseeing stop every three minutes.
If you enjoy being outdoors, moving at a comfortable pace, and meeting people naturally along the way, you will fit right in.
What to bring:
Water
Sun protection (there are exposed sections)
Comfortable, sturdy hiking shoes
We will meet at the parking lot on the corner of Bushy Hill Road and Father Junipero Serra Trail at noon.
Looking forward to seeing you on the trail.
