About us

Open Book is a men's book club in Fort Lauderdale for guys who actually want to talk — about what they read, what it stirred up, and what it means to be living the life they're living.
We read fiction that starts a conversation. Not beach reads, not self-help in disguise — novels with something to say about being human. Each month we gather for dinner and/or wine in Oakland Park and dig into the book. One member leads the discussion each meeting, so the group belongs to everyone.
Open Book is for men of all ages, orientations, and backgrounds. Straight, gay, somewhere in between — all welcome. The only real requirement is that you read the book and show up willing to be honest.

Our First Gathering — A Gentleman in Moscow
Open Book meets for the first time on Thursday, May 28th at 7:00 PM.
We're gathering at Red Sea Eritrean & Ethiopian Restaurant in Oakland Park for dinner, wine, and our first discussion. The book is A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles — a witty, warm, and surprisingly profound novel about a Russian count sentenced to house arrest in a luxury hotel, and what he discovers about purpose, friendship, and what it means to live well under constraints you didn't choose.
It's the kind of book that's hard to put down and even harder to stop thinking about.
For this first meeting, I will lead the discussion, and I'm giving the group enough time to gain some members and read the book, but I'm hoping that someone else will volunteer to lead next month's meeting.
RSVP and come hungry. And please do your best to read the book (but if you can't you're still welcome).
