July 2026 Book - The Remains of the Day
Details
Our second pick is a quiet gut-punch of a novel.
The Remains of the Day follows Stevens, an impeccably proper English butler, as he takes a road trip across the countryside and slowly — reluctantly — reckons with the life he chose. The dignity he devoted himself to. The love he talked himself out of. The man he served who turned out not to deserve it.
It's a novel about regret told by a man who won't admit he has any. Which, honestly, feels like a very human thing.
We'll be at Apt. 9F in Wilton Manors — wine in hand, no literary expertise required. Come ready to talk about the book, or just come ready to talk.
One question to sit with before you arrive: Is there a version of your life you quietly talked yourself out of?
See you July 9th.
