Uplifting Lives with Technology
Details
Join us for an inspiring fireside chat with Hammad Malik, a visionary software engineer and entrepreneur whose journey from tech giants Yahoo, Amazon, and Apple has led him to a mission-driven endeavor that promises to change lives in Pakistan.
Hammad is a LUMS and Cornell graduate. His career at Alexa and Siri exposed him to cutting-edge AI and conversational technologies, equipping him with the skills and insights to develop the world’s most advanced voice technology solutions for Pakistan.
Driven by a desire to have a measurable positive impact on the world, Hammad founded UpliftAI, a company dedicated to overcoming the literacy barriers faced by 42% of Pakistan’s adult population. Lack of literacy limits access to essential information and digital services, which in turn impacts productivity and participation in the economy. Voice-based information systems can provide essential information to everyone, irrespective of literacy – creating an opportunity for significant economic uplift.
UpliftAI builds on recent advancements in voice technology and conversational AI, enabling people to access essential information and services in their native languages simply by speaking to their phones. It works on the most basic phones, and even for those without smartphones, thereby improving healthcare, agriculture, e-commerce, and banking access for millions.
In this talk, we will explore:
- Hammad’s journey from a software engineer at global tech companies to a social entrepreneur.
- The inspiration and challenges behind leaving a prestigious job at Apple to start UpliftAI.
- The transformative impact of UpliftAI in enhancing the quality of life and economic opportunities for Pakistan’s underserved population.
