This group is for anyone who loves Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV shows and movies, like Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Firefly, Stranger Things, Black Mirror, The Mandalorian, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and the Marvel and DC Cinematic Universes, and would like to watch and discuss our favorite shows and movies with other fans. All fandoms and ages are welcome.

It's been a while since we've done a meetup. Part of it was it takes a lot of energy to do these and I've been lacking a lot of that since last time and part of it is not wanting to start a watch on a show that might draw rather unkind snark as some previous (poor) choices did. But I think the last couple of years we've been pretty lucky in selecting things that got pretty broad praise. Andor, Severance, Poker Face are some bangers that come to mind. Unfortunately you really don't if a show is going to be good until it's over, so it's all a bit of a gamble. A show that I think is worth that gamble is the one mentioned above. Shogun is a TV series based on the 1975 James Clavell novel of the same name. Drawn from actual Japanese history it's a sweeping story about an English pilot (navigator) 'marooned' on the island of Japan with only his wits and knowledge keeping him from being killed. And the grand machinations and intrigue of all of Japan's great lords vying to be the sole leader of the nation. The comparisons are to Game of Thrones and while that's not exactly accurate it's close enough to give you an idea how grand the ambitions of the showrunners are. Starring little known (to me) Cosmo Jarvis as Anjin-Sama John Blackthorne. Hiroyuki Sanada as Yoshi Toronaga the man who would be Shogun (or would he?) And Anna Sawai as Mariko Toda a lady of the court of Toronaga with great influence and diverse skills and loyalties. As, I said, we haven't done these meetups in a while. So we'll take slow. Likely we'll watch two more episodes but let's see how things go.
