Frankenstein begins with Arctic explorer Robert Walton rescuing Victor Frankenstein, who recounts how his zeal for unlocking life's secret led him to animate a being from dead matter. Abandoned, the creature roams the world for kinship, finding only cruelty, and pursues his creator in a spiral of vengeance.
