Orlando Japanese Language Meetup

Our goal is to have fun practicing Japanese. Come join this language exchange event and speak Japanese and English via engaging conversations. There will be time set aside for speaking Japanese and time to speak in all English.

There will be two sessions. Each session will allow for a set time to speak Japanese and English.

New to speaking Japanese or attending a language exchange?

• Practice introducing yourself. 自己紹介(じこしょうかい)
• Ask others for help with vocabulary and putting together sentences.

Our goal is to have fun learning Japanese together. Come with an open mind, be okay with change, embrace the new, and get ready to learn. We will set the tone for the follow-up meetup event by learning grammar and words we can apply while speaking.

For this event to work as planned we ask that attendees PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME or, if possible, 5 minutes EARLY!

We will learn Japanese:

• vocabulary
• common phrases
• grammar
• kanji

We may also have:

• listening practice
• and play a few games and have fun.

Look forward to a fun, energetic, and thought-provoking class.

Upper Beginner is defined as being at the JLPT N4 level or above. This includes having a working knowledge of Japanese grammar, the ability to conjugate simple and intermediate forms of grammar, an awareness of polite and impolite speech, and familiarity with particles.
If you don't meet all the requirements but have a hard-working nature and are willing to accept the challenge, then you're welcome to attend.

Welcome to the Orlando Japanese Language Meetup.

This meetup will focus on LISTENING. We will be watching video series as a group to improve our listening skills, learn new words, and gain tips on improving in Japanese. Afterward, we will listen to a Japanese audiobook made for native speakers as a group. We will briefly discuss what we understood. The event will also incorporate N4 and N3 study material in preparation for the JLPT.

In addition to listening practice, this event also serves as a transition to the following intermediate meetup.

We are currently reading the Clannad visual novel.

There is only so much that a sanitized, dumbed down, unnatural text will get you, after some time you need to get thrown into the river to show yourself that you can actually swim, even if you have trouble starting. Get a Japanese dictionary, take a deep breath and jump into the water!

Reading and listening practice at a more advanced level through manga and anime. This will be at a JLPT N4+ level but if you can comfortably read Hiragana and Katakana you are also welcome. Please RSVP and include any guests that you plan to bring. If you can no longer attend, please remove yourself so anyone who is waitlisted can attend.
