I'm calling this the "Ultimate Makamah" because I did the hike with my dog Roxy on June 7th and wanted to hike every trail in the Makamah Preserve to see how long I could make the hike. I ended up doing virtually every trail with relatively few retracements. It's really a wonderful trail and one of my favorites on Long Island, so if you can make it, I think you'll really enjoy it.

PARKING: parking will be limited so if you get there and the lot is pretty full you're going to have to drive a few hundred feet down the road and park in any one of the shopping center parking lots and then walk back to where the trail starts

This will be an easy to moderate 5.4 mi. hike. Trails are hilly and winding at times. Lots of foliage, streams, wetlands and a pond.

IMPORTANT! Although we only hike at a moderate pace, 5.5 mi. can be challenging at times , so if you don't feel like you can keep up with the group, you may want to wait for a hike that's shorter and less challenging.

ATTENTION: New attendees to my Late Winter/Mid-Summer Hiking Season(2/15 - 8/15/2026) are required to pay a one time semi-annual $5.00 fee to cover my planning, preparation and Meetup.com's exorbitant fees. This fee will cover you for all future hikes through August 15, 2026.
Generous donations are also greatly appreciated.

IMPORTANT!
Unless you are attending as a guest, you must RSVP if you would like to attend this hike and be a part of our group.

NO OFF LEASH DOGS ALLOWED

INSTRUCTIONS:
When you arrive, look for Greg. I'll be standing near my big red GMC pickup truck holding my sign-in clipboard.

SUGGESTIONS:
For this hike, I recommend wearing shorts, leggings or long pants and shoes with good treads. If you like, bring water to keep yourself hydrated and a snack to keep yourself energized.

ALERT! Since tick season is in full swing, insect repellent is highly recommended. It's also a good idea to check your arms, legs and clothing for ticks at the end of the hike, before you get back into your car and after you get home.

Please, if you RSVP, DON'T BE A NO SHOW!
If you can't make it last minute, please cancel your RSVP. If you get lost, call me for directions. If you're running late, call me with your ETA. If you have any other questions, comments or suggestions, feel free to call or text Greg anytime.

Thank you for being a member.
