Fire Island Sunken Forest Ferry/Lunch 6+ mi. Hike

ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! IMPORTANT!!!

Unless you want to spend the $24 parking fee to park your vehicle in the lot directly across from the Sayville Ferry Service, we're going to park at the Stop & Shop at 191 Montauk Highway in Sayville, about a mile away from the ferry and carpool over to the parking lot. This way we can split the parking fee. SO BRING CASH! 💲💲💲. We will meet at 8:30am so we have plenty of time to organize the carpool and get over to the paid parking lot by 9am to make sure we get on 9:25 a.m. Ferry

ABOUT: This hiking excursion is a new type of event for Off The Beaten Trail Hiking Group members.

We will begin by taking the Sayville Ferry from 41 River Road, Sayville($18 round trip) to
the Sailors Haven Marina on Fire Island. We will walk Fire Island Beach Road to the boardwalk entrance of the unique and enchanting Sunken Forest(see photo). After we pass through the forest we will continue the trail to the Bay Overlook and through the towns of Point 'O Woods, Ocean Bay Park, Seaview and Ocean Beach. We will conclude the first leg of our 6.6 mile round trip hike with a sit-down lunch at McGuire's, the premiere restaurant in Ocean Beach. After lunch we will head back through those towns and through Sunken Forest back to Sailors Haven Marina where we will catch either the 2:00pm or the 3:50pm ferry back to Sayville (depending on what time we return).

Unless you are attending as a guest, you must RSVP if you would like to attend this hike and be a part of our group.

DON'T SHOW UP LATE!!! The ferry will leave promptly at 9:30am

INSTRUCTIONS:
When you arrive, look for Greg. I'll be standing near my red GMC pickup truck holding my sign-in clipboard.

SUGGESTIONS:
For this hike, I recommend wearing shorts, leggings or long pants and shoes with good treads. If you like, bring water to keep yourself hydrated and a snack to keep yourself energized along the way.

ALERT! Since it's now bug season, insect repellent is recommended. It's also a good idea to check yourself for ticks at the end of the hike, before you get back into your car or after you get home.
