Our Safe Space is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that empowers feminine energy in any form, fostering growth and resilience by providing a positive space where everyone can thrive through self-discovery and community.
This nonprofit and is founded and led by Gayla Gongwer, a seasoned educator, trainer, and facilitator, who brings decades of experience and energy to her work. Born in Kentucky, she earned her degree in social psychology from Illinois State University before venturing west of the Mississippi in 1979 – and has gratefully avoided living in winter ever since.
Currently, Gayla is dedicated to growing her lifelong dream, "Our Safe Space," a nonprofit organization committed to helping everyone live the life of their dreams. Whatever that dream might be.
With a passion for community engagement, she currently volunteers weekly at Friends of the Library and serves on the Board & Marketing Committee. Gayla's love for literature extends beyond her volunteer work; she belongs to so many book clubs that she needs to track them on a spreadsheet.
Driven by her commitment to creating positive change and fostering inclusivity, Gayla invites you to join her in making a difference through "Our Safe Space" and beyond.
Non-Discrimination Policy
At Our Safe Space, we are deeply committed to creating a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or exclusion based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, religion, socioeconomic status, or any other characteristic that makes each individual unique.
We celebrate diversity and recognize that our strength lies in the richness of our differences. We are dedicated to fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect, dignity, and understanding, where everyone feels valued, heard, and safe.
This commitment extends to all aspects of our organization, including programs, events, and interactions. Together, we strive to create a space where everyone can truly belong and grow.
Men’s Book & Chat! Unlike other book clubs, there's no prep!
Bring whatever you’re reading—mystery, history, sci-fi, or even a sports mag—and join others for an evening away from the monotony of everyday life.
At Men’s Book & Chat, our books are our icebreakers - creating a comfortable space where we can relax, read and connect with each other. We’ll split our time evenly: half for quiet reading, half for conversation.
It’s a laid-back break from the everyday grind—a chance to escape into your own pages, then swap thoughts, ideas, and laughs with other readers. No pressure, no homework—just time to read, relax, and recharge together.
At Men's Books & Chat we read, then chat with others about our books. Then we read again! Ending up with a group discussion. And feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks!

This is our 5th week - we’ll focus on Chapters Nine and Ten.
• Chapter 9 discusses grief and the process of continuing life after significant loss.
• Chapter 10 explores how individuals can develop a healthier relationship with their bodies by examining societal messages about beauty standards and recognizing the power of embodiment.

- Use Discomfort as Your Internal Guidance System
- Embrace Conflict as a Pathway to Deeper Connection
- Practice Radical Self-Compassion as a Tool for Growth
- Trust Your Body’s Wisdom Over External Validation
- Choose Faith and Connection Despite Life’s Uncertainty
