Our Safe Space is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that empowers feminine energy in any form, fostering growth and resilience by providing a positive space where everyone can thrive through self-discovery and community.
This nonprofit and is founded and led by Gayla Gongwer, a seasoned educator, trainer, and facilitator, who brings decades of experience and energy to her work. Born in Kentucky, she earned her degree in social psychology from Illinois State University before venturing west of the Mississippi in 1979 – and has gratefully avoided living in winter ever since.
Currently, Gayla is dedicated to growing her lifelong dream, "Our Safe Space," a nonprofit organization committed to helping everyone live the life of their dreams. Whatever that dream might be.
With a passion for community engagement, she currently volunteers weekly at Friends of the Library and serves on the Board & Marketing Committee. Gayla's love for literature extends beyond her volunteer work; she belongs to so many book clubs that she needs to track them on a spreadsheet.
Driven by her commitment to creating positive change and fostering inclusivity, Gayla invites you to join her in making a difference through "Our Safe Space" and beyond.
Non-Discrimination Policy
At Our Safe Space, we are deeply committed to creating a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or exclusion based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, religion, socioeconomic status, or any other characteristic that makes each individual unique.
We celebrate diversity and recognize that our strength lies in the richness of our differences. We are dedicated to fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect, dignity, and understanding, where everyone feels valued, heard, and safe.
This commitment extends to all aspects of our organization, including programs, events, and interactions. Together, we strive to create a space where everyone can truly belong and grow.

November ONLINE Book Club - The Book Club for Troublesome Women
Let's read some fiction! Ok, it's a novel - but sounds like life in the 60's to me!
The Book Club for Troublesome Women by Marie Bostwick
Four dissatisfied sixties-era housewives form a book club turned sisterhood that will hold fast amid the turmoil of a rapidly changing world and alter the course of each of their lives.
By early 1960s standards, Margaret, Viv, and Bitsy, suburban housewives in a brand-new "planned community" in Northern Virginia, appear to have it all. Things begin to change when they form a book club with Charlotte--the eccentric and artsy "new neighbor" from Manhattan--and read Betty Friedan's just-released book, The Feminine Mystique.
Join our "We Can Do This Thing!" ONLINE Book Group on Wednesday, November 12th @ 6:00 pm!
And let the record show, we don't care if you haven't read the book yet. Just show up and enjoy the excellent company. You might find out it's a book you'd like to read afterwards.

Based in Pima County, More Than A Bed's Mission is to provide essential items and support for children in foster care, kinship and adoptive families, and youth in congregate care settings, because every child deserves to feel valued.
In 2025 they have helped 2,409 children and 819 families in 8 counties in Arizona. So far.
Their goal is to create a community where every child feels valued, every young person feels empowered to shape their future, and every foster, kinship, and adoptive family feels supported along their journey.

OnlineWe Can Do Hard Things — Book Club & Brave Conversations
1st & 3rd Mondays at 6:00 PM
Starting August 4
View the Dates & Chapters HERE!Join us twice a month for a 10-week journey inspired by Glennon Doyle’s We Can Do Hard Things book and podcast.
Each session stands alone — come to one or come to all.
We’ll dive into themes like courage, boundaries, self-trust, and showing up for yourself. You do not need to read the whole book (or any of it!) to join.
This is our 8th week - we’ll focus on Chapters 15 and 16.
• Chapter 15 explores the paradox of seeking happiness in a culture that promotes perpetual dissatisfaction and endless striving.
• Chapter 16 frames anger as a vital emotional signal rather than a character flaw, challenging cultural narratives that shame individuals—particularly women—for experiencing this fundamental human emotion.
The Key Takeaways from the book are these concepts:- Excavate Your Authentic Self Rather Than Adding More
- Use Discomfort as Your Internal Guidance System
- Embrace Conflict as a Pathway to Deeper Connection
- Practice Radical Self-Compassion as a Tool for Growth
- Trust Your Body’s Wisdom Over External Validation
- Choose Faith and Connection Despite Life’s Uncertainty
If you’re craving connection, growth, and a little Monday night magic — this is the place.
Let’s do hard things.
