The Next Generation of Surgery: From Automated Surgery to Humanoid Robot Surgical Teams
Autonomous surgery is no longer science fiction. Robots are already performing supervised surgical tasks, and humanoid platforms are rapidly closing the gap toward general-purpose use in the operating room. This talk will explore the advances and techniques in robot learning and AI decision-making that are reshaping what's possible in surgical care, its transformative potential, and social and ethical implications of having semi-autonomous robots perform surgery.
Featured Speaker:
Dr. Michael Yip: Jacobs School of Engineering
Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UC San Diego
Michael Yip is an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, San Diego, where he directs the Advanced Robotics and Controls Laboratory (ARCLab) and the Healthcare and Medical Robotics Collaboratory at the UCSD Contextual Robotics Institute. His research focuses on surgical robotics, biomimetic systems, and robot learning.
