What we’re about

Out & Active NI is a community-driven sports and social group dedicated to providing a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive space for LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies in Northern Ireland. Our mission is to foster a sense of belonging through physical activity, social connection, and personal development. Whether you're looking to join us for hikes, walks, casual sports, social events, or simply meet new friends, we are planning a variety of activities tailored to all skill levels and interests.

At Out & Active NI, we believe in the power of movement and community to uplift and empower each other. Our group is a safe space where you can be yourself, stay active, and build meaningful connections. We aim to create a vibrant, diverse, and respectful environment that celebrates every identity and promotes health and well-being.

Join us for what will hopefully become regular events, workshops, and activities that range from fitness sessions to social meetups—all while supporting and growing the local LGBTQIA+ community. Whether you’re new to sports or just looking to get involved in a fun and inclusive space, Out & Active NI is here for you!

Power in Every Step: Self-Defence Workshop

Self-Defense Location, 17A, Harbour View, Heron Road, BT3 9LE,, Belfast, GB

Ready to kickstart a new skill and have some fun while doing it? Join us for a 3-hour self-defense class focused on the dynamic art of jiu jitsu, a practice designed to build confidence, awareness, and strength.

🕤 Meeting time: 09:30 (Start time: 10:00 sharp)
⏳ Duration: 3 hours

We’ll kick things off with a walkthrough of self-defense basics followed by a group warm-up. Then it’s into the action with 1.5 to 2 hours of hands-on instruction, led by two fantastic instructors who’ll guide us through different techniques and forms.

To finish up, we’ll have an optional sparring session, a light-hearted, fully controlled space to try out what we’ve learned (only if you’re feeling up for it!).

✨ All fitness levels are welcome. This class will be tailored to suit everyone, whether you’re a total beginner or already a bit of a ninja!

While the session will be relaxed and fun, you’ll also be learning practical and empowering skills that cover the fundamentals of self-defense, tools you can carry with you beyond the class.

This is all about learning, laughter, and feeling empowered. No pressure, no judgment. Just a safe, inclusive space to try something new with your community 💪🌈
