Luxembourg - Bergamo Flight - (Bergamo + Lugano + Verona) - April 2023

Details

Hello Guysssss,

Are you packed yet?!
In short, the trip is organized as follows:

  • 2 days in Bergamo (April 3 and 4)
  • 1 day in Lugano (Switzerland) by train (April 5)
  • 2 days in Verona (April 6 and 7) by train
  • Last day in Bergamo

Here is instead a more detailed travel description:

Bergamo is an old charming city near Milan, which also stands out as one of the most appealing cities of Northern Italy for its historic churches, mesmerizing panoramic views, and impressive Venetian protective walls.

Back in the day, the city witnessed the inception of the widely-known "Commedia dell'arte" and welcomed some of the most iconic Renaissance Italian artists.

  • April 3: We will explore the city of Bergamo which is mainly divided into two parts: Città Alta ("Upper Town") and Città Bassa ("Lower Town"). The Lower Town is the modern part of Bergamo whereas the Upper Town is the fortified historic center built within the embrace of seven hills. The most exciting way to get from the Lower to the Upper Town is the city’s vintage cable car. We will also run into the spectacular and massive San Giacomo Gate, made out of white marble (as you can see in the picture). The historic center of the city is Piazza Vecchia ("Old Square") where stands the oldest municipal building of Italy called Palazzo della Ragione ("Palace of the Reason").
We will take a funicular to the Bergamo Castle. Once we get to the top level, we will find the San Vigilio Castle overlooking the Upper Town.
  • April 4: If we manage to rent cars, we will also go hiking along the Passo della Presolana (in Val Seriana, near Bergamo) to reach the high cliff named Salto degli Sposi ("Leap of Spouses"), a romantic spot where we will enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view.
  • April 5: we will visit Lugano (Switzerland) by train (2h20). Throughout the day, we will be able to visit a few things: Piazza della Riforma, which is the city center, San Lorenzo Cathedral, Ciani Park which is another must-see to enjoy the stunning view of the lake. After lunch, we will reach the ***Monte San Salvatore ***to enjoy the best panoramic view of the city. Once in the city center, we will then return to Bergamo by train.
  • April 6 and 7: We will go to Verona - internationally known for the Romeo and Juliet Shakespearean tragedy - to spend the very first day at the spectacular Aquardens Terme di Verona, which is the biggest thermae in Europe! So relaxing will be our top priority that day! I suggest spending a couple of days there to fully visit Verona which is the 9th most beautiful city of Italy! The journey to Verona will take roughly 2h by train.
  • April 8: We will spend our last day in Bergamo, and don't worry, you will have carte blanche.

As a proud Italian, I cannot say it enough: Italian food is never disappointing, wherever you go (in Italy of course)!

  • Polenta: is one of the most popular and traditional dishes in Bergamo and is certainly worth a try.
  • Casoncelli alla bergamasca: a stuffed pasta and a very traditional dish in this Italian region
  • Pizza at II Fornaio: which should be the best spot in the Upper Town for a slice of Sicilian-style pizza.
  • Gelato at La Marianna: as they claim to have invented the Stracciatella ice cream.

Concerning the accommodation, you are free like a bird. You can book the accommodation at a later stage, share the accommodation costs with a travel mate of your choice, or book it on your own. Ideally, we should manage to accommodate everybody's wishes without jeopardizing the overall organization. Either way, we will create a Whatsapp group to arrange our daily activities so that we are all on the same page.

Please don't forget to confirm in the chat box that you have already bought your flight ticket so that we can figure out the exact number of the fellow travelers.
