Details
This is a 11.5 mile difficult loop hike with 1900 feet in elevation gain. We will start on the Uwharrie Trail and finish on the Dutchman's Creek Trail.
The Uwharrie National Recreation Trail and the Dutchman's' Creek Trail offer a variety of scenery, streams and rocky terrain. The Uwharrie Trail is marked with white blazes and the Dutchman's Creek Trail is marked by yellow blazes.
Legend says that both the park and the mountains of Uwharrie are named after the Indian tribe that once lived in the region. The Uwharrie Mountains are low peaks that were once thought to be ocean floor volcanoes.
Pack a lunch or snacks and plenty of water. We will stop for lunch and perhaps fire while we stop.
We will meet at the Dutchman’s Creek Trailhead, 4176 NC-24, Mt Gilead, NC 27306.
After the end of the hike, nearby and on the way back home we will stop at Uwharrie Brewing in Albemarle.
