Mohonk Preserve Lost City Exploratory hike-limited spots!

** EXPERIENCED HIKERS ONLY- limited to 15 due to nature of hike**

Description:

The Lost City is a line of cliffs with glacially created vertical fractures. They resemble a city skyline when viewed from a distance. The Lost City area offers a series of crevices and boulders similar to the well-known Lemon Squeeze of the Mohonk Mountain House. Like the Lemon Squeeze, it requires the use of hands and feet to traverse the talus field which leads up the cliffs.

This is an EXPLORATORY hike which means it will not be like one of my regimented hikes with an exact route, distance or elevation. I will be co hosting with a NY native as I have never been here before and have wanted to do this hike for months. Very appreciative for his help! The loop from the parking lot is about 7 miles, but add in 2-3 of exploring. Elevation total guess is around 1,500. The challenge is in the rock climbing/scrambling.

Please keep following in mind before signing up:

1. this is a long drive from our area, but worth it! Carpooling highly suggested. May even want to consider staying over night near the area- kind of expensive, so may want to consider a little bit further out. Early start time posted since the parking lot fills up. Doesn't hurt to get here early.
2. hiking fee paid to the ranger for privilege of hiking on the preserve is $15 per person
3. this is a limited special event. Please do not sign up unless you are 99% sure you can make it.
4. there will be LOTS of rock climbing, tight spaces and obstacles that are dangerous. Make sure that is in your comfort zone. You will NEVER be forced to do anything you are not comfortable with.
5. end time is just an estimate/guess when we will be done with the hiking portion. Plan on the day there and most likely a bite to eat after.

GEAR REQUIRED:
1- Proper footwear- hiking boots or trails shoes with good grip
2- Appropriate clothing for conditions: layers, wind protection
3- Gloves with grip- rubberized surface for the climbs will be helpful
3- WATER or other source of hydration; food/snacks as needed
4- Electrolytes suggested
5- Hiking poles and backpacks as needed.
6- Sunscreen, bug spray and bear spray as desired
7- Headlamps a must!!! We will explore dark places

WEATHER: This hike is dependent upon weather conditions days before and day of hike. Will monitor for rain, snow and ice as we can not explore in dangerous conditions.
