Mt Penn playtime: Pagoda, Peace Rock and Hill climbzzzzz....10+ miles

*Due to distance, elevation, quick pace and limited number of stops, this is NOT a hike for beginners. *

Not your ordinary Mt Penn hike......this hike has some extra adventure built in. Best described as fitness oriented hike and a little challenging, BUT FUN as a primary goal.

We will begin with a climb out of the Antietam Lake parking lot and head towards the memorial fire tower (quick stop here). From here is where the fun begins...we will ramble around the Mt Penn woods incorporating some off the beaten path trails and hills. During this adventure we will head to the Pagoda for some nice views (quick stop here as well) and also hit Peace Rock to play around a bit.

Best estimate of mileage is around 10-11 miles. Pace on moderate plus side. Elevation unknown as there will be elements of surprise and flexibility built into this route. If you want to feel like a kid again romping through the woods climbing hills, this hike is for you. If you want to color in the lines, this is not a hike for you.....IYKYK...:)

GEAR REQUIRED:
1- Proper footwear- hiking boots or trail runners
2- Appropriate clothing for conditions: layers, wind and rain protection based upon forecast.
3- WATER or other source of hydration; food/snacks as needed and suggested for hikes over 8 miles
4- Electrolytes for longer hikes
5- Hiking poles and backpacks as needed.
6- Sunscreen, bug spray and bear spray as desired
7- Micro spikes depending on weather

WEATHER: All winter hikes are dependent upon safe travel conditions to and from the hiking area. We will hike in existing snow and very light rain. Heavier, cold rain will cancel

PARKING AND MEETING LOCATION:
We will meet at the parking area considered the Mount Penn Trailhead off Angora Rd at the Antietam Lake Park. See Meetup pin for exact location/ parking lot. This lot does fill up Highly advise arriving early. Never hurts to carpool. Feel free to post carpool comments in the event.
