Pinnacle and Heart Attack Hill 16 mile training hike
Details
Advanced hike designed to start the training process for those doing the Hydrostatic and other upcoming long distance hikes (sign up for those are NOT a requirement to do this hike). Mileage for this hike is just under 16 miles with 3,100' of elevation. Two BIG climbs and smaller ones in between.
The hike begins with the return of the infamous "death march", minus the Pulpit...we will be taking another trail over past the Blue Rock campground and climb up a nice hill as we make our way over to the Pinnacle.
From the Pinnacle we will head over towards Port Clinton. Staying on the North side of Rt 61, we will dip down into the valley where there is a stream and loads of Hemlocks. Enjoy the view as the only way out of the valley is up HEART ATTACK Hill. Just a pet name- it is a climb that is less traveled then the leg destroyer, but just as hard.....Straight up type of climb!
Pace will be on the moderate+ side (about 3.3 on flats/down; slower but steady going up). Limited stops, but will: regroup on occasion, regroup at top of the 2 major climbs, have a brief snack break/enjoy the views at Pinnacle and top of second climb . I will cater to the main PACK of hikers. If you are way off the back from the start or within the first mile, you will need to hike your own hike- say that nicely....:)
GEAR REQUIRED: hiking footwear as there will be plenty of rocks, roots and slippery conditions. Water, food and electrolytes. Dress in layers and for the weather conditions. Microspikes will be needed if snow or ice present.
PARKING AND MEETING LOCATION: We will meet at the parking lot at the end of Reservoir Rd which is the AT trailhead for the Pulpit and Pinnacle. See MEETUP pin.
GUEST POLICY: All attendees must be members of Outdoor Adventure Friends. This is for communication purposes to ensure that those in attendance understand exactly what they are signing up for. Meetup is free …..
