Castenea Boulder Field, plane crash and more - 15miles, 5,500' HARD HIKE

** VERY HARD CHALLENGING HIKE....experienced hikers only....Everyone will be screened before being moved off wait list.**
Castenea is home to one of the best and longest rock scrambles in the PA area . The boulder field is about 1.5 miles of straight up. Super challenging, but FUN! There will be 5 serious climbs (and steep descents) as well as other small climbs. Of course will will visit the plane crash....:)
This is a group hike in which we will support each other. Hence it is CRITICAL that your fitness level is closely matched to the attendees of the hike. Pace will be a little slower then our usual fast pace given the length and elevation. End time is total guesstimate as I have only done a smaller route here. Parts of this area that will be new to me and lots of rocks and elevation that eats up time.
GEAR REQUIRED: hiking footwear is a must as there will be plenty of rocks and roots. By plenty I mean thousands upon thousands of rocks!
Bring plenty of water, food/snacks, electrolytes. Medical supplies good to carry if you have them.
WEATHER: I have done this in brutal cold temps and pouring freezing rain. Not happening again....Fair weather hike (light rain a possibility)
CARPOOLING: This location is about 3 hours from Conshohocken, PA. Carpooling will be highly suggested to make driving time pass quicker and to split cost of gas and tolls. There will be folks getting hotels the night before as well. Use the comment section for this if needed. DO NOT OFFER TO BE A DRIVER AND THEN BAIL. Please and thank you..
