Appalacian Trail - Peter's Mtn, 12.5 miles 1500ft elevation - Moderate/Advanced
Details
This is an awesome hike with views of the Susquehanna River to both the north and south sides of the trail.
Note: We meet at 9:45 so we can start hiking by 10:00.
We will hike approximately 12.5 miles with about 1500ft of elevation, possibly a little more if you choose to do a few of the rock scrambles. Note: the rock scrambles are optional, you never have to do anything you don't feel comfortable with. You can just sit back, relax and laugh at the rock scramblers 200 yards away as they traverse between two boulders and wonder how the hell they'll get back to where they once were.
We'll be travelling at about 2.5 mph on the ascent and descent (as it's pretty steep) and 3.0 - 3.2 mph on the ridgeline (which has a few smaller ups and downs to keep it interesting). Most of the mileage will be on the ridgeline.
With the distance, speed, and elevation this is a Moderate - Advanced Level hike and NOT a beginner hike.
The return time is a best estimate and is based on the overall level of the group.
Note: normally I allow dogs on my hikes, however there are two goats roaming free that frequent this section of the trail. The goats seem to be fine with people but I have no information how they interact with K-9s. For this reason, DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THIS HIKE.
We'll have a few short pauses to take in some of the beautiful scenery and snap some pictures and we'll take a slightly longer stop for a snack/lunch break.
Hiking boots or trail runners are best. A hiking stick or two or a solid tree branch is recommended.
Bring at least one to two liters of water, a snack/lunch and electrolyte/energy chews, etc. as you deem necessary as we'll be out for over five hours and will cover 12.5 miles with 1500+ ft of elevation gain.
